My own personal fashion week!

Standard

My best friend, Holly, visited Paris last week during what happened to be Fashion week over there. After hearing about all the fabulous adventures overseas, I decided to keep the fashionista vibes going by blogging about my recent pinsipred outfit!

I’m a Gamma Phi Beta at Oakland University. Every year we host a formal dinner dance in the spring. It’s a great opportunity to take fabulous pictures, dance with our sisters and show some appreciation to the members that have shown the brightest over the last academic year. Such wonderful events require equally wonderful ensembles. I am ridiculously picky about the dresses I choose for these events. I mean those pictures last forever, right??!! And this was my last formal; I had to go out with a BANG! So I scoured malls, local boutiques, and vintage stores, but I came up empty handed. Discouraged, I decided to snoop around Pinterest.com for some new pinsipration, and I was not disappointed! Take a look below to see what I found!

The Dress:

I followed the link from the pin to an Etsy.com store in Edinburgh, Scotland. The store, PurebyCatrionaG, is home to “handmade luxury womens wear.” The designer Catriona Garforth works with high quality fabrics, has great attention to detail, and offers wonderful customer service.

Pinspiration for the whole ensemble!

The Shoes:

I actually already had the perfect shoes to match my stunning dress. I found them last year at Santee Alley in Los Angeles. I bartered with store owner and bought the shoes for a whopping $20 as a birthday present to myself. Their designer counterparts costs over $200!!!

The very expensive designer version of my shoes

The Jewels:

My fabulous vintage inspired cameo bracelet came from Santee Alley (you’ll be seeing a lot from here), as well. It was a gift from my fabulous mother and sister.

Obsessed with cameos!

The earrings I actually came by just prior to heading out the door for the event. My good friend Breanne had bought them for $5 at a local store that was going out of business. How lucky!!

The Hair:

I’m all about saving money. I wanted to find the perfect tutorial so that I could do my own hair. I have a trusted hair blog that never fails me: www.thesmallthingsblog.com. In the hair tutorials section, I decided on the “The Chic Updo.” It was super easy after some practice. She has a video on her page showing you step by step instructions.

So simple and beautiful.

My headpiece was actually a last minute find, as well. I’m a huge fan of vintage hats and hair accessories. When I was shopping the day before the dance, I happened upon this fabulous veiled teardrop hat hiding on the bottom of a rack at an Icing store.  I was planning on whipping up something at home from my craft box, but there was no way I could pass up this fabulous find.

Why aren't hats like this still common place?

I loved how dramatic my look came off. I received complainants from my sisters and other party goers all night. I think I really made an impression, but you can see for yourself below!

Easy and elegant! Give it a try!

Just the right shade of red lipstick.

A nice piece of arm candy ;)

When you put it all together you get a fabulous dramatic look!

Hope you enjoyed this look! I know I had an amazing time wearing it!

Until next time friends!

Quiet Desperation?? No Thanks!

“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”

-Henry David Thoreau

I’m a 22-year-old woman, getting ready to graduate with a bachelors degree. My days are filled endless job applications, agonizing essays, and a case of senioritis that makes it all seem never ending. When I look around my world at my classmates, my professors and parents everyone looks so drained. It’s so easy for life to become such a routine. When I really took a gander into how I was was living my life, I realized I wasn’t actually living. I was just trudging through.

Enter Pinterist.com. I had built pin boards full of 100′s of pictures that I spent hours staring at and wishing that was life. Finally, after moping over my non- life, something hit me!  Maybe it was inspiration, but I like to call it PINSPIRATION. I decided to get my fabulous pinterest life out of the graveyard known as cyber land and out into the real world.

Each week I’m going to pick something from the fabulous world of pinterest, and turn the picture into reality. Please join me as I try to learn to cook like a gourmet, become a fashionista and a DIY goddess. I’ll be posting all of my experiences (the good and the bad) here, in the hopes that someone else may feel the Pinspiration and join in the journey towards living life!

And now for my first experience….CHEESECAKE CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES!

The Pinsperation!

I was searching for some tasty treats to make for a girls night in. I really wanted to class it up a bit from a the mundane potato chips and dip menu. I’m not only trying to mix up my own life, I’m trying to share the wealth! There were no complaints with these delicious additions to the menu.  Before I reveal my finished product I’ll tell you how I made them.

Ingredients

  • One carton of whole strawberries, washed
  • Philadelphia Ready-To-Eat Cheesecake Filling
  • Dipping Chocolate

Directions

  1. Remove the stems from the berries.
  2. Using a small paring knife, core the center of each berry being careful to leave the bottom intact.
  3. Fill plastic bag with cheesecake filling and snip a small piece of the corner off.
  4. Squeeze a teaspoon size amount into the berries in a circular motion.
  5. Put filled strawberries on a wax paper lined baking sheet and place in refrigerator until later.
  6. In a microwave safe bowl pour 2 cups of chocolate, and melt in 30 second intervals. Stir well at each turn.
  7. Take strawberries from the fridge and prepare to begin chocolate dipping!
  8. Dip in chocolate covering 3/4 of the strawberry and place back wax paper lined baking sheet.
  9. Place back into refrigerator for 20 minutes to set chocolate and cheesecake filling.
  10. Serve and except all the fabulous compliments!!!! (Also enjoy how yummy they are)

DRUM ROOOOOOLLLLLL PLEASE……..
