My best friend, Holly, visited Paris last week during what happened to be Fashion week over there. After hearing about all the fabulous adventures overseas, I decided to keep the fashionista vibes going by blogging about my recent pinsipred outfit!
I’m a Gamma Phi Beta at Oakland University. Every year we host a formal dinner dance in the spring. It’s a great opportunity to take fabulous pictures, dance with our sisters and show some appreciation to the members that have shown the brightest over the last academic year. Such wonderful events require equally wonderful ensembles. I am ridiculously picky about the dresses I choose for these events. I mean those pictures last forever, right??!! And this was my last formal; I had to go out with a BANG! So I scoured malls, local boutiques, and vintage stores, but I came up empty handed. Discouraged, I decided to snoop around Pinterest.com for some new pinsipration, and I was not disappointed! Take a look below to see what I found!
The Dress:
I followed the link from the pin to an Etsy.com store in Edinburgh, Scotland. The store, PurebyCatrionaG, is home to “handmade luxury womens wear.” The designer Catriona Garforth works with high quality fabrics, has great attention to detail, and offers wonderful customer service.
The Shoes:
I actually already had the perfect shoes to match my stunning dress. I found them last year at Santee Alley in Los Angeles. I bartered with store owner and bought the shoes for a whopping $20 as a birthday present to myself. Their designer counterparts costs over $200!!!
The Jewels:
My fabulous vintage inspired cameo bracelet came from Santee Alley (you’ll be seeing a lot from here), as well. It was a gift from my fabulous mother and sister.
The earrings I actually came by just prior to heading out the door for the event. My good friend Breanne had bought them for $5 at a local store that was going out of business. How lucky!!
The Hair:
I’m all about saving money. I wanted to find the perfect tutorial so that I could do my own hair. I have a trusted hair blog that never fails me: www.thesmallthingsblog.com. In the hair tutorials section, I decided on the “The Chic Updo.” It was super easy after some practice. She has a video on her page showing you step by step instructions.
My headpiece was actually a last minute find, as well. I’m a huge fan of vintage hats and hair accessories. When I was shopping the day before the dance, I happened upon this fabulous veiled teardrop hat hiding on the bottom of a rack at an Icing store. I was planning on whipping up something at home from my craft box, but there was no way I could pass up this fabulous find.
I loved how dramatic my look came off. I received complainants from my sisters and other party goers all night. I think I really made an impression, but you can see for yourself below!
When you put it all together you get a fabulous dramatic look!
Hope you enjoyed this look! I know I had an amazing time wearing it!
Until next time friends!

Sharon-Rose xx
